a progressive Jewish collective in San Diego
Hinenu Havurah is a progressive Jewish collective in San Diego that supports liberatory learning, prayer, and action. We come together in a culturally and spiritually diverse community proudly rooted in the Jewish diaspora. We support each other through hard times and healing, celebrate together, and share in life cycle events. We seek to coexist in ways that honor a wide range of perspectives and experiences and provide a safe space for all. The Jewish historical legacy as a persecuted people requires and compels us to reject the ways of oppression and stand with the most vulnerable members of our society.
We welcome all who feel alienated by Zionism in many institutional Jewish groups. While we appreciate the important role of the land of Palestine/Israel in Jewish history, traditions, and liturgy we strongly reject the fusing of Judaism with political nationalism and/or ethnic supremacy.
We recognize that the creation of a Jewish nation state in historic Palestine resulted in grave injustices, including ethnic cleansing, that continue to this day. We seek a future that includes full civil and human rights for all who live in and have ties to the land.
We seek meaning and renewal in a tradition that leads us toward lives of compassion and courage, based on the Jewish value that every life is sacred (b’tzelem elohim). We are committed to developing relationships based in reciprocity and solidarity and building a community that centers peace, justice, and liberation for all people, locally and globally.
We have multiple members with families and have plans to increase our child/family programming in the near future!
